Will Macauley, Trainee Solicitor
Will graduated from the University of Surrey with a degree in Law in 2017, and went on to complete the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in Guildford, achieving a Distinction. Will joined TWM in September 2015 as an intern in order to attain broad experience of work across many departments. Will then continued in the Business Law and Employment teams while completing his studies. Will commenced his training contract in August 2018, did his first seat with the Employment team and is currently undertaking a seat in the Lending department.
During his time with the Employment team, Will was involved in a variety of employment matters, both contentious and non-contentious. Some contentious matters of note include:
A dispute between an individual and his former employer regarding the enforceability of post-termination restrictions, acting for the individual. Successful defending the claim at arbitration.
A tribunal claim for unpaid wages by an individual against his ex-employer, automotive service company, and a counterclaim by the employer for various breaches of contract - acting for the employer. Successful both in defending the claim and counterclaiming.
Advising an individual as to his legal recourse following his unlawful expulsion from an unincorporated association.
Will has drafted many bespoke legal documents for business clients, large and small. These include terms and conditions of business, shareholders agreements and acquisition documents as well as contracts of employment, employment policies and staff handbooks.
In his spare time, Will enjoys going to the cinema and playing guitar. He is always looking for a new skill, such as baking or filmmaking.
