John May, Consultant in Commercial Property
John is a specialist in all aspects of property law who has long experience of advising major London Estates, developers and individual owners in dealing with both commercial property and residential property, with particular specialism in enfranchisement. Having represented freehold owners, landlords and leaseholders in many hundreds of cases, no problem is too large - or too small.
In commercial property, John’s practice has a particular focus in advising clients with retail, restaurant and investment buildings. John’s motto remains “difficult problems solved”.
John joined TWM as a Consultant Solicitor and Notary in October 2020, bringing his established practice to the Fulham office. After qualifying in the City, and subsequent experience in Westminster, he was a partner for many years at a leading firm in Knightsbridge, before setting up and running his own practice for sixteen years in Kensington. John served for ten years as the Legal Director of the Government’s Leasehold Advisory Service and retains close links with this developing field of law.
John is heavily involved with the City of London and is currently the Renter Warden of the Worshipful Company of Paviors. As Chairman of Trustees of the related charity he supervises their grant making functions and enjoys close relations with their military affiliates. As a result, he became the only member of TWM (so far) to have flown an RAF supersonic Typhoon fighter aircraft. His travels between London and his home on the White Cliffs overlooking the Dover Strait are conducted slightly more sedately but give time for thought on solving the problems that his varied practice provides.
