About
Blaise is a Solicitor in the Dispute Resolution team, based in the firm’s Guildford.
Blaise trained at TWM and has a broad experience advising both individuals and business clients in a wide variety of disputes and litigation cases. Blaise specialises in commercial litigation with a focus on construction disputes, but also frequently advises clients on property, IP and contractual disputes.
Experience
Blaise has extensive experience in a wide variety of disputes, and has been involved in:

Defending a complex £1m claim brought by the NHBC against a builder in respect of various alleged defects in the construction of a new home;

Defending proceedings brought against a large security systems company for alleged breaches of contract;

Advising individuals on potential claims in contract and negligence against a firm of architects for complications from their design of our clients’ holiday home;

Assisting a landlord with a £300,000 dilapidations claim against former tenants;

Defending claims for professional negligence against a firm of solicitors;

Advising two sets of clients on a complex dispute with a commercial contractor under a JCT Contract for the construction of new houses;

Advising a director-shareholder of a company on a dispute involving potential unfair prejudice and employment law aspects;

Opposing various allegations of copyright infringement brought by a multinational corporation against a well-known UK cosmetics company;

Successfully resisting interim injunction application in a dispute involving alleged trespass, obtaining the discontinuance of the proceedings by the Applicant;
-
Advising landlords, tenants and homeowners on various aspects of property law and disputes, including s.20 major work consultations, breaks in leases, restrictive covenant, service charge, overage and Party Wall disputes.
Prior to joining TWM, Blaise was a Legal Assistant at a City law firm. One of his personal highlights in this role was his active involvement in a review team investigating allegations of international human rights abuses.
Approach
Blaise aims to resolve his clients’ legal problems with a practical and commercial view, always considering their best potential options in their particular circumstances, no matter how difficult these are. Blaise seeks to provide thorough, in-depth advice, and enjoys taking on challenging issues which require creative thinking.
Blaise received an international education, obtaining his International Baccalaureate (IB) in Beijing and studying law at the University of York, before completing the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at BPP University in London with a distinction.
Blaise enjoys participating in pro-bono initiatives, having previously volunteered at the Lambeth Law Centre and on an employment law telephone advice service. Blaise was also previously an advisor in the Economic Development team of a non-profit organisation in the US providing free-of-charge business law advice for start-ups and community-driven business projects.
Outside of work, Blaise enjoys playing table tennis, hiking and travelling, having previously travelled extensively in Asia and America. Blaise regularly enjoys attending Surrey Junior Lawyers Division events and other networking events.
