New guidance on direct marketing has been published by the Information Commissioners Office. The guidance aims to help businesses comply with their data protection obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (SI 2003/2426).
The attached checklist highlights the key data protection issues a business should consider when carrying out direct marketing. It explains how customer information should be collected and how product information should be communicated to existing customers.
