Army Benevolent Charity To Benefit Ahead of Eagerly Anticipated Inaugural Car Rally

A TWM Solicitors team led by Managing Partner, Matthew Truelove, is taking part in the inaugural County Club Car Rally in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF).

The 4 day event starting on 23 April, is an 860 mile route starting in Guildford, and ended up in Calais via St Malo and Le Mans.

A dozen teams have entered, the rules requiring each to have spent no more than £750 on the vehicle that is (hopefully!) to take them around Northern France. The TWM Solicitors car is a 1989 Mercedes 190E which in fact, Matthew explains, was never meant to be making the trip. I had another Mercedes in mind, and bought this one as a non-runner for spares. I soon realised, after popping out the centre electrode in the distributor cap (that a well known roadside recovery company had managed to leave pushed in), that she was the better bet of the two! We have leather, air conditioning, a sunroof and cruise control – all mod cons!

Although the rally is not a race, team TWM faces some stiff competition and the entrants will all need their wits - not to mention car maintenance skills - about them, as they seek to raise collectively at least £10,000 for ABF.

The Army Benevolent Fund has been chosen by the County Club as it is the Mayor of Guildford’s chosen charity for the year, with the town hosting Armed Forces Day in 2015. It is also a charity very close to Matthew’s heart, as his son Alexander serves with the Mercians.
